For the first time the Color Guard Independent Open Class will have a semi-finals at the 2008 WGI World Championships. Entries reached the required number of 40 color guards in order to add the semi-finals to the competitive schedule.

"We are very pleased that the growth of this class has reached the need for a semi-finals in Dayton this year," said Dale Powers, Color Guard Coordinator. "It proves that the efforts we have put into encouraging young instructors and proper classification is paying off in the growth of the Independent Open Class."
