From an Independence Press Release
The Independence Winter Guard organization is celebrating its 12th Anniversary in 2010! We are pleased to present 2 competitive guards to the WGI stage this winter-- Independence Open and the Cadets of Independence, as well as the addition of Michael Lentz to the Open guard design staff!
Independence Open will perform their program, “Abstract Landscape in Teal”, set to the music of Alison Moyet. 2010 marks the return of an all female guard, the first all female guard since the inception of Independence back in 1998. The 21 women of Independence Open have set the stage this winter with a refined approach to programming and style. The committed and talented staff includes: Chuck Cummings (Director/Designer), James Nemecek (Movement/Choreography), John Spellan (Equipment/Choreography), Ashley Metzger (Equipment Tech), Lauren Gogolew (Movement/Choreography) and Gerry Manuel (Equipment Tech). Joining the design team this year is Michael Lentz. Michael will be staging the program and brings experience having designed for over 30 WGI Finalist Color Guards including Onyx World Color Guard.
Independence Open will perform at the Dayton Power Regional, the Indianapolis Power Regional and The WGI World Championships in April.
The Cadets of Independence will compete in their first WGI contest---the Dayton Power Regional. The Cadet program began in 2007 and has blossomed into a challenging and competitive program for girls, ages 7-16. These 17 young ladies will compete in the Independent Regional A Class in Dayton with their program “Pave Paradise”, to the song 'Big Yellow Taxi' by Amy Grant. Much like the song states, the girls are living by the motto, "you don't know what you've got til its gone". They are extremely excited to take their show on the road for the very first time! Staff includes Jeanie Cacciato, Lisa Otto and Chris Leoni.
