The nation’s largest comprehensive, week-long summer music camp is taking registrations. The Music for All Summer Symposium, presented by Yamaha, will return to Illinois State University, Normal, IL, June 21-16, 2010. The camp also will offer a weekend of student leadership training June 19-21.

The Music for All Summer Symposium typically brings together more than 1,500 student musicians and educators from as many as 35 states and abroad. High school students can learn from top music educators in tracks that include concert band, marching band, jazz band, orchestra, percussion, color guard and drum majors.

High school and middle school band directors and instructors can choose among educators’ tracks that hone their professional skills. The McCormick’s Enterprises Directors Academy offers comprehensive continuing education for high school band directors, a track for middle school and young band directors, and dedicated academies for drum and color guard instructors. Directors can earn up to three hours of graduate credit for an additional, modest fee from Illinois State University.

In addition to educational sessions with leading musicians and music educators, student and teacher participants enjoy world-class concerts and events presented every evening of the symposium, free to campers and available as ticketed events to the public. Leadership activities are woven throughout the camp, and Music for All also offers a special leadership weekend for students wanting to acquire and expand those skills.

The camp also offers parent orientation, closing performances and a closing family picnic to get the whole family involved. More information, including registration, is available a www.musicforall.org/programs/symposium or by calling 800-848-BAND. Early bird registration discounts are available until March 31, 2010.
