Insurance Information
All units competing at WGI events shall provide proof of general liability and accident medical insurance to the WGI office no later than January 15. The WGI Board of Directors passed this requirement due to numerous reports of injuries sustained at rehearsals and/or contests as well as requests from units for favorable group rates. The following are the minimum guidelines for WGI competition.
General Liability - $1,000,000 general liability coverage per school or organization. This coverage protects your unit, instructors, directors, and officers against claims of bodily injury liability, property damage liability and the litigation costs to defend against such claims. This coverage will also allow any unit to rent rehearsal facilities as most require proof of coverage. School units should check with their district office to see if such coverage already exists.
Accident Medical - $10,000 accident medical coverage per school or organization. This covers excess medical payments (instructors and performers) at all activities sponsored and supervised by the unit (rehearsals and performances) as well as travel in a group and travel individually from member's home. School units should check with their district office to see if such coverage already exists.
WGI has arranged for a special rate through Insuremywinterguard.com, a subsidiary of Heffernan Insurance Brokers:
$450 minimum premium for the General Liability & Accident Medical package
All policies are annual (12 month) policies and cannot be negotiated for less than the minimum premium amount.
Both policies must be purchased together as a package for a minimum of $450. This cannot be negotiated even if a current liability or medical policy is in place.
