Following the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation that gatherings of 50 or more people be postponed or canceled, the 2020 WGI Color Guard, Percussion, and Winds Advisory Board Meetings scheduled for May 15-16 in Las Vegas, Nevada, have been canceled.
These annual meetings govern WGI and include election of individuals to division steering committees and the board of directors. Each advisory board is composed of one representative from each Independent World and Scholastic World finalist and the top five finalists from all other classes of competition at the preceding WGI World Championships.
Without a world championship event to determine advisory board membership, the WGI Board of Directors has agreed to keep all current advisory board members and persons in elected positions in place through the 2021 season. Should a vacancy arise during this extended term, an online election will occur.
In addition, all rules and policies currently in force will remain in place until the next advisory board meetings. Our practice of soliciting proposals to change current rules or policies will not occur as we recognize that in-person discussions before voting are vital to the process. WGI will be in contact with directors about gathering feedback from 2020 events in the near future.
The WGI Hall of Fame induction ceremony and the Bob Wiles Memorial Golf Tournament, will also be postponed until a future date.
Please continue to stay safe and healthy and we look forward to the day when our community can gather once more.
