The 2016 WGI Color Guard, Percussion, and Winds Advisory Board Meetings have been set for May 20-21 and will be returning to the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. This annual meeting is where representatives vote on the rules and policies that govern WGI as well as the election of individuals to steering committees as well as the board of directors.
WGI is also pleased to announce that a proposal passed by the Percussion Advisory Board adding two additional A & Open representatives to that body was ratified by the full board of directors and expanded to all three divisions of WGI. Effective this year, the Color Guard, Percussion, and Winds Advisory Board will be comprised of the Independent and Scholastic World finalists plus the top five competing groups (rather than three) in each of the other classes. This was done so all three divisions have uniform representation on each advisory board.
“These meetings are the lifeblood of WGI and give our participating groups a voice in how WGI is governed,” said Ron Nankervis, WGI Executive Director. “A wealth of information as well as ideas gives us a blueprint for the next season and keeps the focus on how we can improve the experience for groups participating in WGI and guides our local Circuit Partners on how they can adopt or adjust policies that best suits their organization.”
Any color guard, percussion ensemble, or winds group participating in the current season may submit rule or policy proposals for consideration. Proposal forms will be available beginning Wednesday, April 27 and the deadline for submission will be Friday, May 6. All accepted proposals will be published online prior to the meeting. Any proposals passed by the Advisory Boards will then be forwarded to the WGI Board of Directors for final approval at their annual meeting in July.
Elections for the WGI Board of Directors and individual steering committees will also be held at this meeting. To see more information on the Advisory Boards and how WGI operates, please visit our website to see the organization’s By-Laws and Policy Manual.
