About UAlbany Winter Guard:
The UAlbany Winter Guard is proud to announce its premier in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Independent A class in 2025. Following an undefeated 2024 season in the Mid York Color Guard Circuit within the Independent All-Age class, the program is excited to showcase its talents on the national stage.

As the UAlbany Winter Guard prepares for its debut in the WGI Independent A class, the team is focused on delivering performances that will captivate and inspire audiences nationwide. The 2025 season promises to be an exciting chapter in the program’s history, marked by artistic excellence and competitive spirit.

Job Description: The UAlbany Winter Guard is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team. This position is responsible for instructing, training, and mentoring our Winter Guard team to achieve excellence in performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the marching arts, a passion for teaching, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement training and technique programs for the Winter Guard team.
    Provide instruction and guidance to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Work with the Director to plan and coordinate rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and well-rounded program.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that supports the growth and development of all team members.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in color guard, winter guard, or a related area.
  • Strong background in fundamental and advanced movement and equipment techniques.
  • Proven track record of successful instruction and performance outcomes.
  • Ability to provide clear and actionable feedback to performers to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching within the A or Open class as part of a WGI-competitive group.
  • Fundamental understanding of the adjudication process and ability to create rehearsal plans based on adjudicator feedback.
  • Specialization in movement and/or a specific piece of equipment (e.g., flag, rifle, sabre).
