From a Light Brigade Press Release
Light Brigade, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce our 2017 program: “On The Cover of a Magazine.” Our production reflects what every person in the art, fashion, and entertainment industry dreams about; being on the cover of a magazine! Their aspirations may start on the runway at a fashion show, or even on the red carpet, but you know you made it when you get on the cover of a magazine.
This year’s show pays homage to the iconic documentary, Paris Is Burning and how “voguing“ has influenced the runway, music videos, and entertainment. Vogue, or voguing, is a highly stylized, modern house dance that evolved out of the Harlem ballroom scene in the 1980s, and was documented in film in the 1990s. It gained mainstream exposure when it was featured in Madonna’s song and video “Vogue.” In 2016 the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant.”
Light Brigade is under the direction of Sheila Henderson. Assistant Director – Arthur Landis. Show design, costume design & choreography – Tommy Van Der Grift. Choreography/Design- James “Jay” Levister & Calvin “Champ” Parker. Additional staff- Joe Santoro & Sheila Singleton. Prop and costume construction – Gary and Anna Cooper. Soundtrack- Joe White.
See our production locally at MAIN (Mid-Atlantic Indoor Network) and Tournament Indoor Association competitions. Nationally, Light Brigade will be attending the WGI Trumbull and Pittsburgh Regionals, WGI Eastern Championships, and WGI World Championships.
Light Brigade will continue to push the boundaries with a unique, and crowd pleasing approach to colorguard. We hope you enjoy it. Now, STRIKE A POSE and VOGUE….VOGUE…VOGUE!
