Southeast Missouri State University Unveils New Winter Guard Play

Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes and it can take on many forms. For one individual, witnessing a performance of Mechanicsburg High School’s iconic 2014 production, “Forever Young”, was enough to inspire an entire play about the winter guard activity.

From a Southeast Missouri State University Press Release:

March 1st – 5th is the world premiere of The Winter Guard Play by Avery Deutsch at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, MO (1 1/2 hours south of St. Louis). This play is the winner of the 2022 Lanford Wilson New American Play Festival national competition that the university hosts every summer.

About the Play:
Winter Guard is not Color Guard. Forget football. Forget pom-poms. In the lead-up to the state championships, a high school winter guard team attempts to choreograph a winning routine about global warming. A play about catching flags, catching each other, and realizing the grown-ups aren’t going to save you. Rust Flexible Theatre – River Campus Cultural Arts Center.
