DAYTON, OH—The 2019 WGI Color Guard, Percussion, and Winds Advisory Board Meetings have been set for May 17-18 and will return to the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the annual meeting representatives vote on the rules and policies that govern WGI, as well as the election of individuals to division steering committees as well as the organization’s board of directors.
Each advisory board is composed of one representative from each Independent World and Scholastic World finalist and the top five finalists from all other classes of competition at the preceding WGI World Championships.
Reflecting the change in the WGI World Championships schedule from three to four days, the advisory board meeting will be the home of the WGI Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18. The Bob Wiles Memorial Golf Tournament will also be rescheduled to take place in conjunction with the meetings. More information on both these events will be forthcoming.
“Our annual advisory board meetings are the backbone of how WGI operates with regard to each division determining their rules and policies,” said Executive Director Ron Nankervis. “The discussions and decisions coming out of this very vital weekend write the blueprint for the future of WGI, as well as give further direction to the indoor marching arts activity.”
Any color guard, percussion ensemble or winds group participating in the current season may submit rule or policy proposals for consideration. Proposal forms will be available beginning Wednesday, May 1, and the deadline for submission will be Friday, May 10. WGI will publish all accepted proposals online prior to the meeting. Any proposals passed by the Advisory Boards will then be forwarded to the WGI Board of Directors for final approval at their annual meeting in July 2019.
Elections for the WGI Board of Directors and individual steering committees will also be held at this meeting. To see more information on the Advisory Boards and how WGI operates, please review our By-laws and Policy Manual.
