WGI Judges Summit Kicks Off 2026 Season in Atlanta

More than 150 WGI judges gathered in Atlanta on January 16–17 to officially launch the 2026 season at the WGI Judges Summit. The two-day event brought together adjudicators from the United States, Canada and Holland for training, collaboration, and alignment as preparations begin for another exciting winter season. The Summit also marked the second in-person gathering of adjudicator professionals since WGIcon in September 2024.

Throughout the weekend, judges participated in a series of focused sessions designed to support consistency and clarity across WGI events. Breakouts covered key topics including individual caption responsibilities, number management, and best practices for evaluating performances with accuracy and fairness.

In addition to reinforcing core judging fundamentals, the Summit also explored emerging tools shaping the future of the activity. Sessions introduced judges to potential uses of AI-powered tools to support organization, communication, and efficiency, sparking thoughtful discussion around how technology can streamline processes while keeping the focus on adjudicator expertise, integrity, and the live performance experience.

The 2026 WGI season officially begins February 7 with 93 individual regional events scheduled across the country, culminating in the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio on April 9–11 and April 16–19. This season also features a record 1,756 participating groups and marks the debut of a new type of competitive experience: Regional+ events.

With renewed focus, shared standards, and a commitment to ongoing growth, WGI judges leave Atlanta ready to support performers and instructors at every stop this season—helping ensure a consistent, educational, and rewarding experience throughout the 2026 WGI season.
