As we look ahead to the 2027 World Championships, we are preparing for a milestone celebration honoring the legacy, artistry, and community that has shaped WGI across generations. The 2027 World Championships Opening Ceremony will take place in April at the University of Dayton Arena, and we need your help to cast it!
We are looking for volunteers to participate in the opening ceremony, donning historic costumes and taking the floor once more in UD Arena. As an alumnus, your connection to WGI is a testament to this organization, and by participating in the opening ceremony, you would not only be volunteering your time; you would personify the bridge connecting WGI’s past directly to its future. The 2027 World Championships will be a moment to celebrate where WGI has been, where it is today, and the future it continues to create for the indoor marching arts community.
To be considered for participation in the Opening Ceremony, all Alumni must meet the following requirements:
- Eligibility: While all past WGI performers are welcome, it is highly recommended that you are not currently a member of a 2027 competing group to avoid any conflicts with your ensemble’s rehearsal schedule.
- Availability: You must be available for Zoom meetings throughout the fall/winter. You must also be available for the full duration of Tuesday prior to the opening ceremony and the Wednesday of the opening ceremony.
- Costume Fittings: You must be able to travel to Dayton, Ohio, in January 2027 for professional costume fittings. We will gather preliminary measurements from your form submission below.
We would be honored to have you join us for this special ceremony. Any interested parties should fill out our 2027 WGI Opening Ceremony Alumni Interest Form. Additional details regarding the timeline, responsibilities, attire, and rehearsal information will be shared with selected participants as plans are finalized.
Thank you for the role your group has played in WGI’s story. We hope your alumni will accept this invitation to help open the 2027 World Championships and be part of the next big moment in WGI history.
