Apply for a position in the WGI Board of Directors and division Steering Committees

WGI Sport of the Arts is looking for qualified individuals to fill open positions on the Board of Directors and division-specific steering committees.

Qualifications:

Individuals must appear on the published staff list of their respective Advisory Board group, but are elected in their personal capacities and continue to serve out their elected term on the Board if their affiliation should change. Individuals do not represent their group, but rather the activity as a whole.

Duties:

The WGI Board of Directors ensures that accountability is maintained for all resources. Each board member acts on behalf of all groups participating in WGI. Directors have a responsibility to support the board’s decisions and to act in the best interests of organization.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Approval of annual budget.
  • Review financial statements and annual audit
  • Appointment of Chief Executive Officer.
  • Overall management and strategic direction.
  • Review bylaws and organizational structure.
  • Elect officers who also function as Executive Committee
  • Elect up to four (4) At-Large Directors.
  • Serve on committees as assigned
  • Review proposals presented to the Board of Directors for change or adoption.
  • Review project proposals
  • Any other matters brought before the Board of Directors

Steering Committees, as active leaders in the direction of their respective divisions, play a crucial role in shaping the future of WGl. They are responsible to their Advisory Board by evaluating scoring systems and philosophy, developing, and monitoring judge training, and participating in the reclassification process throughout the season.

Each steering committee member acts on behalf of all groups participating in WGI. Members are responsible for supporting the committee’s decisions and acting in the best interests of the committee and WGI as an organization verbally and on social media.

Meetings:

* Attendance at all meetings is mandatory
  • Annual General Meeting – July 11-12, 2025
  • Regular Meeting – November 16-17, 2025
  • Zoom meetings from time to time as scheduled
  • Travel expenses paid by WGI
  • Annual Advisory Board Meeting – June 12-13, 2026
  • Travel expenses paid by WGI

Available Positions:

Color Guard: 3 two-year positions

Percussion: 3 two-year positions, 1 one-year position

Winds: 1 two-year position

Color Guard: 3 two-year positions

Percussion: 2 two-year positions

Winds: 2 two-year position

Application Process for a Board of Directors or Steering Committee Position:

All nominations must be pre-screened, and nominations for the Board of Directors or Steering Committee will not be accepted from the floor at the meeting.

Interested individuals who qualify should complete a self-nomination form no later than May 16, 2025, and are subject to the following pre-screening requirements before their nominations are presented for election:

  • Must appear on the staff list of a current Advisory Board member.
  • Background check conducted by WGI.
  • Confirmation of SafeSport training (done by the WGI office).
  • Representation of Eligibility.

All candidates will have the opportunity to speak to their respective Advisory Board on their interest and qualifications prior to voting.

Effective immediately, all such positions within our organization must be pre-screened to be considered by the respective Advisory Board.
