Soddy-Daisy High School has an opening for a Percussion Director / Instructor position to join our percussion teaching team starting summer 2025. This is not a school teaching position, but an adjunct position paid by the band. The ideal candidate has experience with WGI/BOA/DCI level of performance and instruction. The percussion program features the marching battery and front ensemble in the fall with percussion ensemble and Indoor Percussion program competing in the ETPAA circuit during the winter and spring months. Students prepare and audition for district/regional honor bands.
The Soddy-Daisy HS Band is one of the largest bands in the Hamilton County School system. Located just outside Chattanooga, TN, the band has a long history of excellence. The band is comprised of 2 concert bands, jazz band, winter guard, indoor percussion, and percussion ensemble programs. The band’s resume includes performances in BOA Regionals, USBands State and National Championships, and various state performances. The band was a participant in the 2010 Rose Parade and performed in Sydney, Australia in 2013.
Job requirements include, but are not limited to:
• professional educator to work with percussion staff/design team to create fall marching production.
• develop positive relationships with our students.
• strong understanding of technique/rudimental playing and the ability to develop a technically sound program.
• Implement a comprehensive technique program for all mallet/auxiliary instruments.
• coordinate with parent volunteers for games/contests/events.
• communicate with students/parents by email and phone.
• create percussion calendar for year including rehearsals, contests, recruiting and clinics.
• run the percussion class that meets daily.
• attendance at football games/contests/rehearsals.
• assist in ordering uniform parts and equipment for percussion section.
• assist in submission of entries for percussion festivals and events as needed.
• recruitment at the middle school level.
• work with middle school percussion students as needed/requested by directors.
• be willing and open to teach private lessons to students after school.
There are budget line items for equipment and other program needs for both fall and spring programs. Payment is based on experience level / hours worked. Position is available due to a current staff member getting married and moving out of area.
