WGI Introduces Required Housing Policy for World Championships Beginning in the 2027 Season

The WGI Board of Directors has approved a new housing requirement for groups attending the WGI World Championships for the 2027 season. Beginning next year, it will be a requirement for all groups participating in the World Championships to use the WGI Housing Service for their overnight accommodations. This is intended to simplify the housing process for directors, provide consistent travel support, and ensure safe and appropriate overnight accommodations for all participating members.

With more accurate counts of incoming groups and housing accommodations tracked through the program, WGI can expand housing availability and guarantee the lowest rates from all participating hotels in southwest Ohio. The housing service also provides 24/7 access to travel agents who can assist with emergencies, room issues, or unexpected travel disruptions.

“This housing service provides directors with an added layer of security and support,” said WGI CEO Ron Nankervis. “With competitive rates, multiple hotel options, and access to travel agents in the event of an emergency, directors can focus on their programs knowing housing support is in place.”

This housing policy also aligns with WGI’s best practices for overnight travel. Hotel accommodations allow directors to assign housing with appropriate consideration for member age, gender, and shared sleeping arrangements, while reducing situations that may place members or instructional staff at risk during overnight stays. Directors are encouraged to review the complete Best Practices Guide for Overnight Accommodations.

The World Championships Housing Service has been available for the past four seasons, and most groups already take advantage of it annually. For many directors, this policy will not require changes to their existing planning process. Groups with special circumstances will be able to apply for a housing waiver.  Additional details, timelines, and booking information will be shared in the coming months.

Please note that use of the WGI Housing Service is not required for groups attending the 2026 World Championships.
