Introducing WGI REGIONAL+: A New Era in Regional Events
Dayton, OH – June 11, 2025 – WGI is proud to unveil a major innovation for the 2026 competitive season: the launch of REGIONAL+ events. These newly designated regionals mark a significant evolution in the competitive landscape, improving the accessibility of traditional Power Regional events with an enhanced adjudication model to better serve performers and educators across the activity.
What is Regional+?
Modeled after the highly regarded Power Regionals, REGIONAL+ events feature a double panel of judges for all finals performances. This means every finalist group will be evaluated by two full panels of adjudicators, offering a broader, more comprehensive perspective on each show. Doubling the adjudication in finals provides groups with a wider variety of feedback essential for refining their program, preparing for World Championships, and growing throughout the season.
Why Regional+?
The REGIONAL+ format is a direct response to the increasing financial and logistical challenges associated with securing large-scale arena venues for Power Regionals—challenges that have intensified in the post-COVID event landscape. With fewer arena dates available, WGI made a strategic decision to prioritize adjudication access and educational value, ensuring that groups across all regions and resource levels have meaningful opportunities for development.
More Events, More Access
In addition to the enhanced judging format, REGIONAL+ will also feature new one-day regional events aimed at reaching areas with smaller populations or limited access to multi-day competitions. These streamlined, cost-conscious events are designed to lower barriers to participation, reducing travel and lodging expenses while bringing the WGI experience closer to home. With the addition of these one-day options, WGI is taking critical steps toward greater equity and geographic inclusion.

With over 25 REGIONAL+ events planned for the 2026 season, this expansion represents a significant investment in the educational and competitive experience WGI provides. These events retain the format and community spirit of Power Regionals while offering enhanced feedback, greater judge engagement, and a broader reach than ever before.
